4/10/2021
What is extremely exciting about the Body+Beauty Lab botanicals is the intense quality that we bring to the world of skincare. The certification of the Body+Beauty Lab botanical laboratory products is extensive. Here is a list of the programs and certifications for the Body+Beauty Lab botanical products:
1) ECOCERT®
ECOCERT is a worldwide certifier of organic farming products, and is accredited to certify organic ingredients according to the NOP standards under the USDA. It was the very first certification body to develop standards for “natural and organic cosmetics,” and has become a leader in organic certification standards and currently certifies over 70% of the producers in France. ECOCERT is a non-government agency that has extended beyond agriculture to include the other industries. Recognizing the need for standards in the development of natural skincare, ECOCERT defined a requirement level for manufacturers who make products with respect to the natural substances and the environment. ECOCERT currently certifies in over 80 countries providing two certifications: ECOCERT Natural and ECOCERT Natural and Organic.
2) USDA National Organic Program (NOP)
Housed within the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service, the NOP has developed national organic standards and has established an organic certification program based on recommendations of the 15-member National Organic Standards Board (NOSB), which is appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture. Certification standards establish the requirements that organic production and handling operations must meet in order to become accredited by USDA-accredited certifying agents. The information that an applicant must submit to the certifying agent includes the applicant’s organic system plan. This plan describes (among other things) practices and substances used in production, record keeping procedures, and practices to prevent commingling of organic and non-organic products. The certification standards also address on-site inspections.
Labeling standards are based on the percentage of organic ingredients in a product. Products labeled “100 percent organic” must contain only organically produced ingredients. Products labeled “organic” must consist of at least 95 percent organically produced ingredients. Products meeting the requirements for “100 percent organic” and “organic” may display the USDA Organic seal.
3) Oregon Tilth
Oregon Tilth Certified Organic (OTCO) is an internationally recognized symbol of organic integrity. OTCO provides a system that combines strict production standards, on-site inspections, and legally binding contracts to protect the producers and buyers of organic products. OTCO has been offering organic certification services to the industry for over 30 years. Helping to develop the National Organic Standards of the USDA, Oregon Tilth was one of the first to gain accreditation and begin offering organic certification under the USDA organic regulations. Oregon Tilth offers certification services to producers, manufacturers, food handlers and more, both nationally and internationally.
The organic certification process must cover not only the end product, but also every step of the process from harvest to market. In order to ensure quality throughout a product’s journey to the consumer, OTCO provides a system that combines strict production standards, on-site inspections, and legally binding contracts to protect the producers and buyers of organic products.
